Governors
What do Governors do?
The Governing Body’s job is to support the professionals – the head, the senior management team and the staff in their many differing roles – so that they can continue to deliver this enviable service to our pupils.
The Governing Body has general responsibility for the conduct of the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement. We take a largely strategic role in running of the school. This includes:
- Setting up a strategic framework for the school;
- Setting its aims and objectives;
- Setting policies and targets to achieve the objectives;
- Reviewing progress and reviewing the strategic framework in the light of progress.
The Governing Body acts as a ‘critical friend’ to the Headteacher and staff by providing constructive advice, support and a sounding board for ideas and help where needed. We may also challenge, ask questions, seek information, improve proposals and so seek to arrive at the best solution. We are responsible for raising standards through the three key roles of:
- Setting strategic direction;
- Ensuring accountability; and
- Monitoring and evaluating school performance.
The Governing Body is accountable to parents/carers, local community and the Local Authority and my role as Chair is to harness and develop the skills and experience of our Governing body in the most effective way for the good of Lordship Farm.
How do we do this?
The Governors at Lordship Farm, meet once each term as a full governing body. The minutes of these meetings are available in the School Office on request.
Between times, we meet in smaller committees focusing the details of specific areas.
These are follows:
Business & Finance
Standards and Curriculum
Pay and Personnel
In addition, individual governors have a responsibility for particular areas of the curriculum and regularly meet with school staff.
Who do the Governors represent?
The Governors are drawn from a range of stakeholders; parents, teachers, support staff, the Local Authority and the wider community.
How can you contact us?
Please contact any of the governors through the School Office at admin@lordshipfarm.herts.sch.uk stating which governor you wish your email to be forwarded to.
